I can’t see why the three months has any relevance. It’s a demo car, so I imagine they still need it until a replacement arrives in April.

They get demo cars very cheaply from the importer/manufacturer and so most put certain rules around them, like they must be used for 3 months before changing hands... if that wasn't the case they'd sell every car as ex-demo and make more money at the dealership (and less at the importer/manufacturer).

Also remember that it won't be a brand new car for insurance purposes either so the normal new vehicle replacement in year 1 won't apply if you are unlucky enough to write it off or have it stolen etc.

I assume you "Pre Reg" (not sale). I've heard in the past that the tax loophole that allowed these to be sold cheaper did require a certain time period before sale, however I bought one a few years ago that had been registered on a few weeks before I bought it.

Wonder how that rule currently works, since they may not be able to get a new replacement for at least a year.

Pre-Reg and ex-Demo are not the same thing... I think the OP means "pre-sale", ie selling it before they can officially sell it due to their agreement with their supplier.

Most have a "if available" type get out clause and revert to market value if they aren't available.

Back in the 1980s when I ran a vehicle hire operation the dealership got bonus payments if they achieved certain targets in a month - It might be £200 per vehicle if you sold/taxed say 250 - I used to add to my fleet when those bonus units applied as the sales director gave me the £200 bonus on the vhicles I took on.

Many so called demo units were often sold with delivery mileage on them.
