I don't think it has started yet. On radio stations where i live it says you'll be invited to apply anytime up to the end of 2024.
  • Thankyou so much all for the kind support my mother hated us living in a situation where you get a 3 month notice to leave
we have moved 4 times already and yes it has cost us carpets and curtains most of the time but having our own place would give the security for now and later in life when we may rely on it for when we get old.

i am grateful that people have pointed out all the factors which have actually helped us make the decision to go for it we are waiting on probate but i guess its time to go and see someone from dwp to seek some further advice of how we move forward and to make sure we are not penalised for doing this for our security.

    thanks again x

I wouldn't advise you to do that. When you ring DWP you are ringing a call centre and they have almost no benefits knowledge.
As advised, once the money goes into your bank you will need to report this and all your means tested benefits will stop. There won't be any disregard for the money.
Once the money goes below £16,000 you'll need to claim UC but there will be a deduction of £4.35 for every £250 or part there of over £6,000.

Perhaps look at a benefits advisor eg CAB or the online ones... my experience with DWP is that its often people reading off a screen and they may not know how all the benefits interact.

I think in your shoes i would look to move quickly.. i dont know anything about probate and how long it takes but if you can match moving and money coming in as close as possible i think it will have less of an impact.

    Good luck with it...

I couldn't cope with the potential of having to move if the landlord had to make changes to tenancy, it took me about a year to recover and stabilise my health after moving here even with other people doing most of the work.   My insurance paid out when i became disabled and i used that to buy my bungalow, sold my house (mostly mortgage so not much money back ) and started again.

The housing market in this area is very quick.. not sure if thats a national thing but houses here are often sold before they reach rightmove.
