Abbey National bank statement withdrawal codes

Options
I'm going through some old Abbey National bank savings, statements of my Mothers. I can see codes as follows.
Credit In
Cash WDL
Cheque Paid

All the above I can understand what they mean, but this one has baffled me.
It just says ENTRIES CONSO9999   then opposite, there is an amount withdrawn from the account. It's definitely a withdrawal of some kind, as the balance reduces by that amount. I can't find anything online, and thought I'd ask here first to see if anyone had any idea.

Thanks, Phil

I'm guessing but could it be a correction of something by the bank?  Does it match a credit?  So £12.49 in and then £12.49 out as if a cheque bounced or was otherwise returned?

    Hi Brie,
No it's just a straight withdrawal?

Looks like an internal Consolidation entry.

I vaguely remember something similar when, IIRC, Santander made a mistake over interest credits. They withdrew the incorrectly credited amount and replaced with the correct amount. Could it be something like that? Is it a significant amount? Is there a similar, but not identical, credit around the same time?

    Hi Badger09
Thanks for your response, but it's not that either, as the balance reduces by the amount withdrawn. So it's a - beside the amount that's left the account, with this strange code ENTRIES CONSO9999

OK so maybe if your mom had been paid interest of £15 which wasn't correct then someone may have done a correcting of say £12 if the actual correct amount should have been £3.  There still would have been a change to the balance.

But given the amount of time that must have passed (when did Santander take over AN?) I doubt anyone will be able to tell you for sure.

Just a guess but it could be contra standing order (CONSO).  it may relate to a reversal on an earlier date (could be up to a month) or a part reversal of an earlier entry.

As it Abbey National, we are going back to the days of a lot of manual processing and the waste clerk may have just pressed the wrong key.

Thanks everyone for your replies and suggestions, I contacted Santander today and they didn't know what it meant either, but said they'd put it to their specialist team. I'll post back when and if I find out.
I was hoping that their might be an old employee of Abbey National on these forums. who might know

    Thanks, Phil

I'm hoping to find out what the payment was for.    But I think I've worked it out myself now after having a good think, and finding out the following "ENTRIES CONSO"  Abbey National changed it's name to Santander in 2010, so I think that money was consolidated into a new Santander account in 2011 I''ll wait to see what the experts at Santander come up with. (It's a long story regarding why I need to find out)

Which in reality means, some low down bank clerk is given the job of tracking the entry.
