Gold coins

Assuming you are in the UK, why would you choose Krugerrand's over UK Britannia's? I thought the main investing point of owning the physical coins is that they are free of CGT.bugbyte_2 said:Used Hatton Garden and Atkinsons buying 2nd hand Krugerrands
I have a slightly unusual take on gold for here. IMHO it negatively correlates with most stocks and shares so I keep 4% in gold which I would sell if I needed to draw down 4% of my portfolio in a stock market crash - Gold is my hedge. Most people advocate using bonds for this but of late bonds have correlated with stocks and if interest rates rise they will devalue. Gilts aren't for me, may as well put them in N S and I premium bonds and hope for the £1 mill!0 -
Out of interest, how does anyone realise the value of their coins?
I have some gold proof sovereigns from the late 80s (inherited) that are ‘worth’ £3,750 if bought from a retailer. How do you go about selling them, and if it’s to a coin seller, what’s the typical margin they charge below their sell price?0 -
You wouldn't, Britannia's have that advantage. Its just that when I brought my first one it happened to be a Kruger and I didn't know about CGT. I do now and if I need to top up it would be in Britannia's. In any case, If my wife and I sold either side of April we would have a CGT allowance of 4 x £12300 so not a problem at the moment.Adyinvestment said:

I think all the retailers mentioned in this thread will buy them from you, I have only recently been looking into this but if they do not have any collectable value you will get around 4%off the spot price.norsefox said:Out of interest, how does anyone realise the value of their coins?
