Neighbours have applied to turn farm land (field) into a campsite

Good morning all,

Pretty much as the title says, we live in a little village in the peaks and the neighbours have a big field sort of up behind us. We have only been in a year and was told this was agricultural land (which I believe it is).

Anyways, will this get granted? And if so can we appeal it. I don't want a bloody campsite next to my house. Hopefully somebody has been through this before (either applying or appealing)

Kind regards
James

Probably depends on what scale of campsite and whether they’re considering occasional camping or something permanent.
A few glamping tents is different to touring caravans. What specifically have they applied for?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • Go on to the council website to see exactly what they are applying for. You will have the opportunity to object , will it affect anyone else?  The more people who will object the better.
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.

Not sure, doesn't exactly go in depth. Just says potential campsite review. Assume that means the process has just started?

    Kind regards

I think you need to post a lot more details in order to get a sensible response.

You can object to the planning permission being granted, but you can’t appeal once it is granted. It’s worth talking to all your neighbours in the village as the increased traffic will affect them all, and the more objections the better. You should take this very seriously and go all out to stop it.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Go the pub and buy the locals a drink  and all will be revealed.

or invite the neighbours around for tea and cajke

Yes the pub is a good idea, thanks for all the other advise. Yes the plan is to stop it, don't want that anywhere near me.

I will do my research and find out exactly what's been applied for.

    Kind regards

Lots of people are choosing to staycation this year due to COVID so it likely your neighbor is trying to tap into this new market. Why do you want to stop people enjoying a well earned break?

We love van camping and have a VW.

Over lockdown the councils were allowing fields to be used for staycations with limited fuss, and not the long drawn out planning permission route, however you had to be self sufficient (I'm in Northumberland), might this be route they have taken?

The pub may welcome the extra tourists, so although it might be a good way of finding out what is going on, to get others to help your objections you may need people who wont benefit from the visitors, rather than those who would.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

Sounds similar to what happened to friends of ours here in Wales.

A piece of land behind their (semi-rural) cottage suddenly turned into a glamping site with occasional small music events. They aren't moving in till later this year - DH has been there regularly as he's been project managing the refurb and has seen/heard the changes for himself - but they arrived one weekend to discover a full on mini festival with campers in pods had sprung up, almost in their back garden! They weren't best pleased, to put it mildly as this is supposed to be their - early - retirement home in a peaceful location.

There was nothing on the planning portal or notice given to the handful of neighbouring properties.

I believe contact has been made with the planning dept but it appears to be a fait accompli....

Fortunately, our friends are actually laid back types who love their music, so now the reality has set in, are not too fussed after all. They plan to embrace it and attend as many events there as possible!

However, if it was me I'd be thoroughly cheesed off and in the case of the OP, would be doing everything I could to prevent it getting approval.
