Querying car insurance renewal quote

Aviva refused on 2 separate calls this month to discuss why my premium for our 2 car policy had been increased by over 21%.
Each time they appeared to be reading their response from a script and at no time responded to any of my actual questions. It was almost like they did not want my business at all. I am now switching to LV for a premium which is less than Aviva charged me last year.
I wondered whether anyone else had experienced this "Take it or Leave it" attitude

No company is obliged to give you confidential details regarding the way they operate their business.
If you have to vote with your feet, so be it.

I did with Lloyds some years ago, for home insurance. Their quote had increased by more than 30%, for no obvious reason. No claims, not on flood plain etc. I called them and was simply told 'That's the quote'.

As the calculations will have been done through some extremely complicated actuarial calculations, there would be no way that a service representative would be able to tell you why anyway.
What difference would it make if they could, it wouldn't change the price.
This is why shopping around every year is still important.0 -
Aviva refused on 2 separate calls this month to discuss why my premium for our 2 car policy had been increased by over 21%.That is because the call handler wouldn't be trained, qualified or informed to know. Each time they appeared to be reading their response from a script and at no time responded to any of my actual questionsJust as it should be. It is worse when unqualified staff try to guess the answer (and usually guess wrong)I wondered whether anyone else had experienced this "Take it or Leave it" attitudeAnyone who was in an early year discount last year is seeing similar scale increases this year.

The person who answers the phone at the call centre does not have access to the underwriting algorithm, and probably wouldn't understand it if he did have access to it. So if he did offer you a reason, it would be pure guesswork on his part, and unlikely to have much to do with the actual reason.
As above no company is obliged to give you information about their pricing model - whether they're selling insurance, furniture or bananas. They offer you a product at a price and you either buy from them, buy from someone else, or don't buy at all.
Or you can haggle, if the seller is willing to haggle. In days of yore it was often fairly easy to haggle over renewal quotes, as it was basically a case of trying to persuade the insurer to offer you the same discount that they offered new customers, even though you were renewing. But not that new customer discounts have been banned there is much less scope for haggling - the quote is much more of a take it or leave it offering.
