Over Charged - british gas charging me for usage aqquired during fixed term at standard Variable rat

Options

My bill is a complete mess. A bunch of smart meter readings have disappeared off the British Gas website. My fixed rate ended the 31st January, since then I've drastically cut my gas & electric usage to probably a 1/4 of what I'd normaaly use. I have for the most part turned my central heating off and at most have used maximum 1or2 units a day when I want to dry some washing on the radiator. I have also cut down on electric, turned off my tv and watch tv on my tablet. There is no way I have used 153 units of gas between 1st Feb & 18th March that British Gas Claim, a big chunk of that was used in my fixed tarriff period. I've been walking around with extra jumpers and making hotwater bottles to keep warm. Their system is broken and they have used some sort of estimate to work out my bill in their favor as they don't have any smart meter readings for that period

Do you have a working IHD? (the little display that you have in the house).
If you do then many of them will show you your use by month, can see there what was used in February and during March so far...

@chrissyBex    Can you change the font please

Are the readings on 1st Feb and 18th March Actual or Estimated ?

When did you last give BG a meter reading ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
  • I'm on a smart reader. If I look at the meter readings on their web site there are no meter readings between 2/7/21 and 18/3/22. There were some there and now they have all  just disappeared. The reading on the 18th March is an actual reading
  • British Gas put in my smart meter 2014 prior to me moving in. I've never had a monitor. I've asked for one and they say they can't provide me one. They commented that I don't need one as I can look up my usage on their website

My Smart reader I think you mean Smart Meter (in your garage or in an outdoor meter box)  - do you also have  an In House Display in your kitchen ?

What was the reading on the last BG bill you have.   ?   Also have a look on the the historic info on the IHD.

I don't think BG are making these up solely to make an extra £ out of you.

153 m3 of gas is about 1700 Kwh @say 7p is £120 ie £20 a week - about par for the course these days

EDIT 12 months ago that would have been £50 and uunder £10 a week.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
  • Did YOU make a note of the actual meter readings, either directly or via the website, on the day your fix ended ?

A simple photo or screenshot of those would enhance your case for rebilling.

On the change of tariff date, what shows against the reading for that day ?
