Generally dissatisfied with fencing repairs

Hi all,

Sorry if some of this is quite obvious but I haven't had problems with trades in the past and I'm a bit naive to what is acceptable / unacceptable work.

In the recent storm I lost 2 fence panels on one side of the house, and on the other side a concrete post and a side gate (the 2 existing fence panels either side of this post were in good condition and could be put back. I decided to have a company replace all of this plus a new gate to the other side of the house to match.

Quoted for installation of 2 new gates, 1 concrete post, 2 new fence panels and reinstallation of 2 existing fence panels.

I produced a detailed drawing showing where all work was to be carried out.

Basically after the work has been carried out, this is result:

1. The new concrete post has slight play and wobbles. All my other posts are solid as a rock.

2. The bolt on the new gate doesn't slide in to lock. It's just impossible to lock.

3. The 2 new fence panels have been installed on north boundary, 2 existing panels reinstalled on south boundary. I stated in my drawing I wanted this the other way round.

4. The second new gate didn't fit so they have quoted me an extra £175 + VAT for a bespoke gate.

This company has pretty much 5 star reviews everywhere I check.

Is any of this unacceptable? I just wanted some guidance before I get in contact with them.

Thanks in advance.

    1. Not acceptable. Probably cheaped out on the sand/cement mix ot just did not use enough.

    2. Not acceptable. But should be easy to move dso it does surely?

    3. Should be a 5 min job to swap. Vut yes lack of sttention to detail.

    4. Fine as long as they refunded you for whatever fasilure they already did. Possibly overpriced though.

Reviews? Never look at the star rating, most places they can pay to remove them. Read the review and see what they say. Who's to sya they did not write them themselves anyway. If revies are anonymous they mean nothing.
