Eon refusing to let us carry our fixed tariff to a new property after a house move !?!

My partner has recently moved house and has asked Eon to transfer her existing fixed tariff to the new address.
Eon have refused and told her she needs to start a new variable contract at a far higher cost.
Does she have the right to demand she keeps her previous fixed tariff that she signed up for around 3 months ago, rather than being forced onto a more expensive tariff?

The contract is tied to the property, moving house ends that contract. Some suppliers will allow you to take contracts with you but in the current climate very few are willing. There is no "right" to take it with you.She must first contact the existing supplier and set up with them, they legally supply the energy to the property.3

I'm afraid what @molerat has said is correct.1

... and do please make sure that she does register with the existing supplier at the new property, trying to avoid that can lead to a lot of issues down the line. When she contacts them she needed to avoid being moved to an expensive fixed tariff so she will probably have to register by phone rather than online. She is already on their deemed tariff which is the capped variable tariff, she just needs to not be talked into changing to an expensive fixed tariff.1

Many thanks for your replies.
Such a shame as she'd signed up to a fixed tariff so avoid this issue.0 -
Should normality in the energy sector ever return, it is worth storing away for future reference that suppliers cannot agree to supply you in a new property from day one. If a supplier agrees that will honour the existing tariff terms at a new property, then it still requires the consumer to sign up with the existing (deemed) supplier. Once this has been done, a switch back to the supplier at the previous home can be initiated. There will be a bill from the existing supplier to cover the period up to the transfer of supply.skinflint80 said:Many thanks for your replies.
