upgrading phone withe EE from 8 to 13, do i need to use new sim sending or will old one work

Options

hi, i have ordered the upgrade today my old iPhone 8 to a new iPhone 13, and the plan is 5G (was 4G previous).  the messages i have had since suggests a new SIM is also being sent.

Can i carry on using the old SIM in the new phone or will to cause issues? and if I do will the old sim also be able to get 5G in areas it is available or do i need to use the new sim provided.

Reason i am asking is seems to suggest the change overs of SIMs can take up to 24 hours, however I need the phone  due to working from home, need to be able to be in contact with office on the phone regularly.  As such, i cannot be without a working phone?

If it does have to be swapped over will it cause any issues if i carry on using my old phone and not start setting up the new one to next weekend,(so that any down time will not be whilst i am working) Or will my old phone/sim cease to work once EE know that i have had the new one delivered?

If you do have to use the new SIM can't you just wait and do it on a day when you aren't working?  Continue using the old phone until then.
  • Looking at the EE community boards a couple of things seem relevant.

All EE SIMs work with all the G's so no need to change SIM to get 5G service.

Seems EE send out a new SIM with all their phone upgrades just in case the old one can't be used in new phone (wrong size, old sim stuck in phone, old phone gone AWOL etc). There is no need to swap to the new SIM. So you can just put old SIM into new phone and carry on.

You can also use the ee app and ditch the sim altogether, by switching to an eSim.
