Keeping No Claim Discount when not owning a car
Hello all
I have been driving since 1994 and never been in an accident. Following Covid and the whole work-from-home thing now my husband and I no longer have the need for 2 cars and were planning to sell mine.
I have been driving since 1994 and never been in an accident. Following Covid and the whole work-from-home thing now my husband and I no longer have the need for 2 cars and were planning to sell mine.
I will end up therefore with no owned car and I was wondering whether there’s a way to keep accruing my no claim discount?
(I will still be driving my husband’s car on a daily basis and probably once a week one of the company cars)
Has anybody any idea if there’s anything I can do to not lose my NCD, in case we realise in a couple of years that we, in fact, need a second car?
Thanks!
Sara

Who is going to be the main driver on the insurance - should it not be you if you’re driving it every day?All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I’m listed as additional driver on my husband’s insurance. We share school pick up/drop off so we both have to drive daily…0

Switch the policyholder each year... most insurers recognise NCD for up to 2 years after it was last used.2

My husband and I are in a similar situation due to (now) working from home. We each drive only occasionally, so we alternate who is the 'main driver' each year. Most insurance companies have no issues with the 'non-owner' being the main driver.2022. 2% MF challenge. £730/30000

This wouldn't preserve the NCD, only the policyholder builds up a true NCD so you need to switch policyholders not main drivers. The main driver should always remain the one who uses the vehicle most.Sky_ said:My husband and I are in a similar situation due to (now) working from home. Some companies offer a named driver discount so even if the NCD is lost, it may not cost that much to start a new policy a few years down the line.0
