I called eon today to be told I had been transferred to eon next, but I did not agree to this.

They told me I had been notified by email. I asked what email address it had been sent to but they refused point blank to tell me "due to GDPR".

The conversation deteriorated after that, but can I have my account transferred without my permission?

In a word, yes.

Your contract terms will tell you it is transferrable - but all that's really happened if you've moved to their new brand and accounting system.

E.oN Next is a wholly-owned subsidiary within the E.oN Group. E.oN Next uses Octopus Energy’s billing platform known as Kraken. There is nothing untoward going on here.
