Just a few days away, and this is the plan (if understood correctly). If not, please tell us.

Arrive at Waterloo Station> aim for known exit, turn left, down slope, through subway to Bus stops (close to imax). Look for Bus Stop J and wait for 139. Get off at Baker St, Stop C ?, Cross road and walk indirection of travel, FIRST LEFT into Melcombe Street which leads to Marlebone Station.

PS, We assume the return journey is the same, is walk down Melcombe St to Baker St and ask where the No 139 bus passes to Waterloo. If not please advise us.

PPS, I have now installed the 139 bus route
FROM Waterloo and the 139 bus route TO Waterloo
    Progress.
When you get off the bus at stop C, turn right remaining on the same pavement and Melcombe Street is on the left. I can't see which road you are planning to cross.

On return, you need bus stop B outside Baker Street Station.
  • Thankyou so much. Its quite a daunting task for us, however we feel easier now it's falling into place. It's all being written down so we're not relying on memory.

I'm not sure but I think you will need to use contactless payments (you will both needs cards) and can't use your bus pass from where you live.

Hope I'm wrong because I need to do a similar cross London by bus in the Summer.

AIUI you CAN use your bus pass - see Fares & tickets - Transport for London (tfl.gov.uk

You can use an English National Concessionary Pass on London buses from 09:00, Monday to Friday. You can use the pass anytime on weekends and bank holidays.

For ease I'd just get a taxi. Between the two of you the cost won't be too bad.

English bus passes are valid all over London but don't work with their bus scanning machines. Just wave it at the driver and he will smile and let you on.
  • Journey done, but omg! At Waterloo caught bus 139. Driver told us where to get off, remember hearing the announcement  Selfridges. Told to walk in direction of bus route. Eventually told to cross road and "walk up there". We walked for 30 mins. Past Portman Sq and other signs saying Portman etc. Eventually after 45mins, found Marylebone Station. Two oldies, both with mobility walkers, one of us disabled, ages 70 and 82.

Somehow we have to negotiate the return journey.

Oh gosh, it looks like you got off at stop BX, Selfridges, which is in Oxford Street, that is a long long way from Marylebone Road, the driver misled you.

I know that bus was only going as far as Oxford Street on Sunday. Not sure about after that though but maybe the bus disruption continued.

If you got off the bus at Selfridges, you were about four stops too early. You needed the in-bus announcements rather than the driver as not all know the various places on route

On return, you need bus stop B outside Baker Street Station.
