I wondered if something like this might be useful.

You put your bike wheels in the channel and lean your bike away from the handrail and push it up the slope. It makes the whole thing so much easier than having to heave the wheels up each riser. Let me know if you'd like more photos.

You mean, you place the bike wheels in the channel, lean the bike towards you, and press the 'go' button. Perfect :-)

  • If I secure it to a lamppost, the I surance won't pay of it is stolen.

I installed a metal channel along my steps, but they are so steep that it is actually harder to push the bike up the steps than it is to sling it over my shoulder.

Also, noting a common mistake with these rails, as per the picture: in order to avoid the pedals hitting the railing, you have to out the bike at such a steep angle that the pedals on the other side of the steps. This is why in Holland, the "channel" is usually slightly away from the railing, so the bike can be pushed whilst upright.

Anyway, for a few hours, I enjoyed the idea that it might be possible. I will just sell the house and buy another one... (In my dreams).

It is a shame that William Lyttle isn't still around - I'm sure he would have enjoyed the challenge without resorting to explosives.

Something Heath Robinson like with pulleys and a winch is fun to imagine. https://makezine.com/projects/swiveling-balcony-hoist/
