So glad I read your article about fixed rates being more expensive. My current monthly dual fuel payment is £79. My new fixed price offer took my payments to £367 per month which meant my yearly expenditure would jump from £948 a year to £4370! How can they actually justify this? When I challenged my provider they just kept saying it was an estimate but using their figures it was based on my last years usage! I’m going to wait for them to put me on their standard tariff!

Prices are crazy just now.  Just got my bill in.  I'm on the cheapest tariff with my provider.  Last quarter compared to 20/21 I've used less gas but paid more.  I changed my tariff in September as I was at the end of my contract.

It is almost certainly not a good choice to fix at those rates, you can always go onto the SVR.
