Resin driveway weeds

Options
Hi we're in the process of having a resin bound driveway installed.

The work started a year ago but there was a shortage of resin which meant everything apart from the actual resin laying was done.

We're hoping the resin will be laid in the next few weeks as temperatures are warming up but I've noticed some weeds growing up through the permeable tarmac base. Is this normal and should I be worried?  Would those weeds be able to penetrate the resin when it's been laid on top?

little bits of moss will grow in the cracks if it's not in direct sunlight and the water can't drain away fast enough
I get little bits of moss in winter, normally give it a blast of hypochlorite around now(springtime) and then it's fine for the rest of the year.
I highly doubt that weeds are growing through your tarmac base now, it'll just be small amounts of soil in the cracks of the tarmac on the surface, weeds grow in there.
you do (very rarely) get little weeds growing on the resin in summer but they are absolutely tiny, as they are growing in around 3 grains worth of soil!

I'm not sure to be honest. There aren't many at all but I just wonder whether once the resin is down whether that'll reduce the space for any to grow

  • You get weeds with different types of root systems. An annual weed will be easy to pull out and won't grow back unless there are new seeds that germinate. A perenial weed has a tougher root system and if you pull it out and leave bits of root, it can grow back. Tough weeds like dandelions can push through materials. I'm not an advocate of weed killer but if it were dandelions for instance an appropriate weed killer might be required as they are hard to eliminate.

Have you discussed the weeds with your contractor? They might have some answers.
