Wholesale gas price is currently trading around 260p which is what it was around January time .

So why are not the fixed tariffs that are being offered now similar to the January one's?

Fixed tariffs aren't based on market spot prices.

And a fixed contract requires a forecast of future prices. This can, partially, be catered for by energy bought forward but there is always an element of uncertainty for any additional energy that might need to be bought at spot prices to cover cold snaps etc. With such a volatile world energy market suppliers are shortening the length of offers, if they are making offers at all.
