Shell energy price more than doubled...

I moved from 100% renewable Shell to get a 2 year fixed price 100% renewable contract just before the energy crisis -
then I was switched back to 100% renewable Shell.
Now, despite already cutting back on heating, Shell have informed me that my DD should be more than double last years rate. (April)
Q: if we only rely on 6/8% on Russian gas why has my home heating cost more than doubled (apart from admin costs - they had my details anyway)
Q: if I was on 100% renewable contract why do I have to pay a surcharge to pay for future renewables - especially during a crisis...?
Finally why can't we produce our own local energy and use the taxes from that to develop our future renewable energy needs...?

Standing charge covers a lot of things, not just the cost of providing you with electricity. Also, ignore the estimated DD amount, and focus instead on the unit rates. As long as you provide regular meter readings, you'll be charged only for what you use. If they are using estimated readings then providers typically over-estimate your usage and overcharge you. If/when you end up paying too much, you'll get it back as a bill credit/refund so it's not a huge issue at the end of the day. If they are trying to take way too much (like my provider is) I'd give them a call and ask them to recalculate your DD based on your actual meter readings/usage.0 -
We can. Needs people to put their hands in their pockets and invest in the companies that are building for the future. Tax alone isn't going to sufficient.Travelmoons said:
