Chimney - shared (semi-detached), needs repair - party wall agreement?

Hi,
I've contacted a couple of people today about getting quotes to repair the chimney stack, which is on the party wall. It needs the flaunching repaired and some repointing.
One of the people I spoke to said I might need a party wall agreement with the owner of next door - does this sound correct?
For a bit more context, next door is rented out - I have let the tenants know & they have spoken to their landlord who has said he will share the cost.

If both sides are in agreement, you do not need a formal PWA. Just get on with the work and share the cost.
