What has the Building Inspector said about this?

It has not been discussed with the building inspector yet. This is being built where I had an old brick shed. The inspector just had the first visit where he basically spent 5 minutes looking at the rubble of the existing shed and said he would next like to see how deep the existing foundation is.
This is interesting as I am  planning on building on old foundations myself. What did the inspector need to see? Depth of foundations?

Yes, the inspector wanted to see how deep the existing foundation is. He said that for clay soil it should be 1m deep. He would also accept 800mm but anything less is not appropriate.

Obesity is hard. Being fit is hard. Choose your hard.
Being in debt is hard. Being financially disciplined is hard. Choose your hard.

Life will never be easy. It will always be hard. But you can choose your hard.

    Thanks for that.

We also have clay, in SW England.

I have BC coming today to look at my existing foundations - they're about 700 odd deep but pretty substantial. The conservatory has been around for 20 odd years without issue, so I am hoping...

Can also depend on if there are any trees nearby if it's shrinkable clay.

Just thumbs up from BC for our roughly 750mm deep foundations - result :)
