MOTOR OMBUDSMAN

Morning I am hoping someone can help.

I have been in dispute with SKODA after the cambelt failed before it was due to be changed and before it was over its mileage.

Am I able to still get it repaired whilst the Ombudsman are reviewing the case?

Thanks,

Steve

Why not check with the ombudsman for an answer you can rely on than potentially prejudice your case relying on the advice from random people online?

The answer will depend on what exactly is in dispute and what evidence/report etc have already been gathered.

As Sandtree says, you're best to get an answer direct from the horse's mouth.
I'd be interested to hear the outcome, though.  How far off the scheduled change interval was it?  Bear in mind, the stated intervals are guidelines - albeit based upon sound engineering and statistical data.  But an interval of, say, 50,000 miles doesn't mean "The cambelt is guaranteed to last 50K miles, and will snap as soon as you hit 50,001 miles".  Belts can snap prematurely, and conversely can last well beyond their intended lifespan.  If you were getting close to the specified interval I'd expect the answer to be "tough", but if you were a long way off the scheduled change then you may get lucky.
Of course you can get it repaired if you want - whether you'll be reimbursed (partially or fully) is a different matter.

Something I often say about services which can also apply to belts...

The service interval or belt change interval is a maximum not a target..  Leave an engine running for hours whilst
chatting to someone or eating your lunch in the car or maybe when the other half is shopping adds zero miles
yet its still adding wear and tear to the belt.
