Windows 10 Pro Update - keep losing internet connection?

Hi,

I wondered whether anyone else has experienced frequent dropping out of their broadband connection following Windows 10 update?

I have Windows 10 Pro.  It recently prompted me to run an update, which I did.

It could be an unrelated coincidence (and perhaps a broadband problem), but since that update I've experienced frequent broadband connection dropouts - I keep getting "Fix Action Needed" errors.  It especially happens when I try to use video on Teams.  I googled around and found some suggestions which said this is a known problem following Windows 10 update. There were suggestions to change settings in my "regedit".

Since making these changes I still have the same dropped connections. Does anyone please know what else I could try/troubleshoot?  It's possible it is just my broadband.

I also made a back up copy of my regedit settings before making the changes, but it is now not letting me restore back to these (Nightmare - wish I'd never changed them!)

Really grateful for any tips to fix this. Thx in advance.

These were the changes:

·       “HKEY LOCAL MACHINE”

·       “System”

·       “Current Control Set”

·       “Services”

·       “NlaSvc”

·       “Parameters”

·       “Internet”

·       “EnableActivePolling” – left click on this or Double Click it to open

·       In the window which opens, the VALUE DATE is set to default of 1 (ONE), change this to 0 (ZERO) and “OK”

Go back to “HKEY LOCAL MACHINE” folder

·       “Software”

·       “Policies”

·       “Microsoft Windows”

·       Locate “Network Connection Status Indicator Active Tests” and double click to open

·       In the window opened on the right, look for two Icon/folders: (1) “NoActiveProbe” and (2) “DisablePassivePolling”.  If neither of these show, then you need to create them. To do this, right click anywhere in the open window on the right, select “create new” and type in “NoActiveProbe” and “DisablePassivePolling”

·       Once both of the above have been created, right click on each and in the “Value Date” section change the default setting from 0 (ZERO) to 1 (ONE).

Do you have any other devices you can connect to your broadband so that you can determine if it’s a broadband or a computer issue?

Are you connecting by wired or wireless?

If you just want to put your registry back, try System Restore.  Type rstrui in search box and run the command. See if there's a Restore point before your registry change.

Many thanks grumpycrab, I will try your suggestion.

Se1Lad - it's a wireless connection to my router.  The only other device I could test with is my phone. The phone also drops out from time to time though and it's always on mobile SIM connection and wi-fi simultaneously. I guess next time I have laptop lost connection I can quickly try taking phone off mobile and just wifi to see if it also loses connection. Thanks for your reply

Well if the phone drops out on Wifi as well you can't blame the Windows 10 update.
Your issue is being caused either by something in the environment or something about the router.

If possible, you could try a wired connection to your router to determine if it is wifi problem or a broadband problem.
