Faulty freezer - American fridge freezer

We have a Beko ASD241 American fridge freezer which we’ve had for seven years. Still using it whilst kitchen is being done up.

Came down to see a warning about temperature. Fridge is nice and cold. Freezer - well everything was defrosting or melting. I’ve cleared out the freezer. Some small ice crystals on the back wall but nothing significant.

I’ve taken the back cover off. The fan is spinning and cooling the metal fins. I’m guessing this is for the fridge. The compressor thing is quite warm to touch. But I can’t tell if it’s working or not.

If the compressor’s borked, then I’m not too concerned because the kitchen should be ready to use by next week and we can survive a few days without frozen ready meals.

Are there any quick/simple things to check/fix that I can look at?

As daft as it sounds - have you tried turning it off and on again? Amazing how many things this fixes (credit to the IT Crowd).

For any issues with a freezer, my first port of call is usually to defrost and clean it thoroughly.  Pay particular attention to the door seals - make sure they're absolutely spotless.  Likewise the bit of the casing where the door closes up against, if you see what I mean.  Make sure the seals themselves are not damaged/cracked/split in any way (if they are it's usually very cheap and simple to replace them yourself).  Make sure the door is closing securely (has one of the hinges managed to come ever so slightly loose?).
Basically if the door is not forming a completely airtight seal then that'll cause issues.
It may turn out to be the compressor or the thermostat or something - but try giving it a defrost and a thorough clean first, that'll cost you nothing and it may well do the trick.
