Emails have disappeared from inbox

Is it possible for emails from a company to disappear over time? I'm sure I heard something about this - or perhaps I'm imagining it...

I had a price match offer from John Lewis, in fact 2 in January, when I try to find them, they're nowhere to be seen. I can find all our other correspondence! I've checked manually in case they came through from another email other than JL, but they are definitely not there.

Thanks, their other emails are still there, can a company set their emails to spontaneously combust after a certain period of time?

Emails can expire, yes.  Unlikely but they can.

    Hi,
removed it when realised you were referring to your Inbox.
It was Outlook, Junk deleted 10 days, then deleted items 30 days.
    Sorry.

Which email client are you using, and which email provider?

Could you have accidentally 'swiped to delete'?

Similar to the above... which email clients are you using on different devices? Who's your email provider? Are you talking about one or two emails or large volumes? If you have more than one way of accessing your emails have you checked that its disappeared off all routes?

It is possible for a sender to request that the email self deletes after a period of time however its down to the receiver's server/email client as to if it actually follows the request or ignores it.

If you use multiple devices with multiple clients there is plenty of opportunity for synch errors to occur but much less so with IMAP than POP
  • Hi, I just log in to BT to check my emails (I use bt internet), I had 2 emails in the same month re. a price match and they both vanished. I thought it was strange as the price match emails vanished, but the follow up emails (asking for feedback) are still in my folder.

If you're talking about logging on to bt.com, you may have a rule that moves email from Inbox to a different folder.
check Settings ->  Mail -> Rules   (auto-forward can also remove email from Inbox but that would apply to all your mail.)
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.
