A wet and miserable looking day here, yesterday was so lovely and obviously sent to tease us.
Paperwork sorting/shredding etc this morning, not a quick fix as need to go through last years stuff, much can be thinned out (I hope).
OH managed to throw tea over the carpet this morning, think he nodded off again, thankfully carpet shampooer was still at hand as he has been doing sitting room/diner in sections and not quite finished yet, he then put the wrong fluid in the machine, had to laugh, think he is a bit tired as he did a cycle ride of 40 miles yesterday, not too shabby for an almost 80 year old.
Hugs and spoons to all that need some. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)11 -
LadyH - you can grind granulated sugar in a liquidiser to make caster - quick and easy plus cheaper. You have me wanting to make a cherry cake - do you do an all in one recipe?
Covid has cancelled friendship & lunch club today - I feel for the lonely oldies who so look forward to meeting up on a Wednesday.
Plan to use some black pudding today for dinner - got it in Al.. last shopping trip - will do some roasted chunks of potato, fried tomatoes and an egg as well.
Started to rain here now plus we are told to expect orange skies from the Saharan dust cloud.
Finished some knitted baskets.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

-Taff, I'm another who grows what will get eaten - and while I love the look of purple beans, they lose their colour in cooking so I too grow yellow ones! IMO runners are only good for chutney.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Afternoon all. What a change in the weather today; it's dull and damp with drizzle but no wind and feeling slightly milder, so not all bad. It's supposed to be back to sunshine tomorrow. We'll see.
Yesterday's grocery delivery arrived on time and the pork shoulder steaks weren't too short dated after all. While I was putting them in the freezer I found half a dozen pigs in blankets from Xmas that I'd forgotten about so that's tonight's tea sorted. We'll have them with chips and a fried egg. That's my second delivery of the month but I'm still on track for having some cash left in this month's grocery budget to boost the squirrel fund - aka saving towards next winter's fuel bills.
I managed another use-up last night with a bit of chocolate syrup ice cream topping. There isn't any ice cream in the freezer to use it on but it went well drizzled over a sliced banana for afters.
I've also had a refund from my broadband provider for what they over charged me last month - only £10 but it's better in my pocket than theirs - and I'm now on the correct rate.
There was a lot of activity outside this morning - weekly bin collection, local primary school children up and down the road practising cycle riding, the anvil chorus workmen over the road were back again (in the rain??) and the dreaded council grass cutting has resumed. They use the big sit-on cutters that are more suited to parks and playing fields but are really too heavy for the communal grassed areas so it looks like a ploughed field when they've been.
On the subject of baths, we were finding it hard getting in and out too, especially DH with his dodgy hip, so we were very happy when the council updated our bathroom with an over-bath shower. Sadly, a walk-in shower/wet room wasn’t an option as we're not disabled enough to warrant one but that didn't come as a surprise so it wasn't a big deal. Even so, it’s not a good idea for us oldies to hop around on one leg like a stork so I bought a bath board that fits over the bath. Now we can stand under the shower to wash the top half then sit on the board for legs and feet. Brilliant buy and it didn’t cost anything as I used some N*ctar points to pay for it.Oh dear, Camelot, what a dire way to run a surgery. Glad to hear DD got an appointment though. Better news with the MOT.
TA - Dodging the rain is a good excuse for retail browsing, isn’t it? Enjoy.
Three cheers for your optician, Izzy. That’s a long time to have to wait for an appointment, so now you’ve got one, I hope they can sort something out for you. Smashing bargain with the bacon chops.
BTW, has anyone noticed that Mother's Day is on the same day as when the clocks go forward? Someone up there definitely isn't a woman!
Hugs to anyone wanting or needing one and I'll hope the sandman visits the sleepless tonight. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.11
