What would be the best/cost effective way to increase the range of my Virgin Media broadband's wifi?

An ethernet over power system and/or plug in WiFi extenders (depending on what you want the signal / connection for).
We have really inconsistent wifi (thick walls) in our spot, and both of us use ethernet over power arrangements for our work desks (2 laptops + a desktop) and 1 wifi extender for phone coverage.0 -
Also nice and simple- raise it off the floor. Mine is now at chest height and its made wonders to the coverage in the room I work in.
I have also used a powerline system in the past but recently it packed up.0 -
I contacted Virgin Media and they wanted to "give" me an intelligent wifi booster for £5 a month.
Since I only want to temporarily boost my wifi for a couple of months a year what alternative wifi booster could I buy that would work with Virgin Media broadband?0 -
Mine was woeful. I fitted a mesh system and now get 200mbs at the farthest point. Their routers are dreadful.1

Like above, buy a decent WiFi router and switch the Virgin hub into "modem only" mode. I didn't even need a mesh system, just bought an Asus router (capable of mesh if I needed it) and now get good WiFi all over the house and garden, where I had dead spots before

I have exactly the same with my superhub 3.
Im trying to increase coverage both upstairs and in the conservatory - and going for a low cost option first.
I have in the last hour received and plugged in a TP-Link AC750 (£20) wifi extender so I can report back in the next couple of days if that helps.
PS - I used to have powerline extenders but they are no longer working so this is my attempt at replacing them with something cheap.

Open the door - when youngest visits if he opens his bedroom door he gets a nice jump in speed.

I need something that can extend my wifi range without requiring an ethernet cable0 -

It doesnt need an ethernet cable, it just plugs in to a mains socket.
I set it up close by the router at first then unplugged it and moved it to the bedroom immediately above where the router is. It works very well as all of the upstairs can now stream netflix etc where is was a bit patchy before.
The device recreates my wifi with _EXT at the end of the wifi name - I simply connect to that network when upstairs and it works fine.
Note that you can have the same wifi name but I wanted it different as it isnt clear what network I was connecting to when it was the same name.
For £20 from Amazon with the option of returning it for free if it doesn't work, its quite a good cheap thing to try.1
