Toshiba L350 Equium

I have this (sat in the garage) predecessor to my current one. It has been sat there a couple of years, and if I could I'd like to fire it up again. I imagine the battery is dead, but the power goes through , and the screen doesn't light up. I'd like to use it for someone who is learning (teaching aid).

Is it worth buying a battery, or is this Laptop likely to be dead?

Try it with the battery removed; any light at all on the front edge?  Check power adapter is working. Hold power button down for 30seconds...  If nothing best option is to remove HDD, extract data and use as a backup drive.

Also worth removing and reinserting the memory in case this has come loose over time
