Haven’t been billed for electrics since we moved in 4 years ago. What will happen?

We moved into our house 4 years but didn’t set up an account with our supplier.

We never have, and so we haven’t received any bills at all for Gas/Electrics. We had a meter installed about 2 years ago but still nothing.

Should they not have chased this up or cut us off by now?

I know the back-billing rules now only allows for 1 year but does this count if we have never made an attempt to contact them? We haven't prohibited them from taking a reading ever but they just never have.

Just wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences.

Obviously the soaring cost of electric and heating means we’re a bit uncertain where we are going to stand when our tenancy ends.

Do you mean your old meter was replaced by a smart meter? If so ,WHO organised it?

For context the house was newly split into two apartments when we moved in, this was a completely new meter that was installed. We have no meter readings on our original tenancy agreement as a result.

Its possible the other apartment has been paying for your use which is why its not been chased up?

Again WHO ofitted this meter? It may be a sub meter bodeg that people splitting apartments like to do as if it was a supplier you would have a bill. it is likely the other flat is probably paying.

Back billing does not apply since you made no contact but if you did how do you have a meter?

The landlord is in the other apartment so would this be a mistake on their part? Would they be responsible for splitting that when doing the apartment?

The landlord arranged the meter to be put in, they live in the other apartment.  We haven’t heard anything from them or any supplier regarding it all.

Hope not, we’ve been paying our rent to them so could’ve saved on that
