Are you submitting readings on a regular basis? Are you in credit or massively in debit? Provider? What tariff??
Potentially they are asking you to clear an accumulated debit due to a few cold winter months and trying to put you massively into credit because they think they need at least 2 months payment on account. And there's really no need for that and could be negotiated....dependent on the answers to the initial questions.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Have you recently given the supplier a meter reading? Might have given them the wrong numbers0

Readings sent in every month,

My supplier is Scottish power and our tariff is0

Well if you are massively in credit and are using only £60 worth of energy while already paying £150 there is absolutely no justification for them to increase your DD. And certainly not to £918. Ring them up and ask them to justify that amount. If they continue to insist it is correct tell them they are wrong and that you are raising a complaint and that you need someone to write to you with the justification prior to the DD being increased. Once you have that and they've responded to the complaint you could escalate to the ombudsperson.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. If your usage is so low why are you paying £150/month ?
If you are really £707 in credit SP should be repaying some of that and reducing your DD.
Either you or SP have a calculation seriously wrong.

I believe that SP offer Variable Direct Debit. If so, consider switching to it so that there won't be any hassle about credit building up.You could pay a fixed amount each month into an instant access savings account and get a small amount of interest.Of course, bills will be higher in winter and lower in summer, but at least you'll be in control.0

Give us todays readings please and find some about 12 months ago with the letter A or smart or our read against them. You say £707 in credit - some online accounts can be difficult to understand - they show the DD's made but not necessarily the cot of the energy.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Thank you all for your comments.
After being on the phone for a good 2hrs I have managed to change my tariff to variable from 1st june when this tariff I'm on now will finish.
The £700 credit will be offset against the Bill's.So new payment for dd will be £281 . Many thanks for all your very helpful advice.
