Just to give the conclusion to this story.   The plumber came back and switched the connections over and it's all working now.  Though, curiously, the green light on the boiler and the 00:00 on the display is still flashing (though maybe the latter just means I need to set the time).

As for what the plumber charged me:  When he'd finished I asked him how much I owed him, and then he said not to worry about it.   So I was happy and I think that was the right way for it to play out.

Good plumb - that was the correct response.
Make and model of boiler, and do you have operating instructions for it?

I'll be sure to call on his services again :).

The boiler is a Vokera Easi-Heat Plus 29Ci.

The light is solid green when a hot tap is running, as it should be.  It's just blinking at any other time.

I did find a PDF instruction manual for it previously.    I can always call the company that installed it and explain about fitting the new tap, hopefully they'll give me an opinion for free :).

Blinking green seems to suggest some sort of minor fault - not enough to actually stop the boiler, but summat amiss.
First thing to try is a 'reset' (this is for 'red' - a more 'serious' issue - but worth trying for green too.)

3.2 HOW TO RESET THE APPLIANCE
    When th
e red fault LED is illuminated, the appliance will require
to be reset manually. Before resetting the boiler, check what

action is required to be taken, using the information on the

fault code table below. Allow a period of two minutes to elapse

before rotate the mode selector knob across the
    position
    (see fig. 1).
