Erroneous charge by ex supplier
Hi. I left my old supplier 6 months ago and they have randomly taken almost £160 from my bank this morning. Have called and, after originally trying to fob me off that it was my final bill (paid and account cleared in November) they eventually admitted their mistake and have apologised and removed my direct debit details from their system and told me to contact my bank to request the money back.
Is this a common occurrence? It’s really bad! Has happened at a really bad time for me too when I am already caught short. What would have happened if I hadn’t noticed or just accepted their original line of it being my final bill, they would have just kept it!

This is why you should always remove old DD authorisations from your bank account once you've settled any final bills...This is generally easy to do if you have access to your bank account online.0

Mistakes happen. You'll get the money back. Matter closed.0

Yes. Should have and will certainly be on the ball in the future. It’s awfullyMWT said:This is why you should always remove old DD authorisations from your bank account once you've settled any final bills...This is generally easy to do if you have access to your bank account online.
bad practice though and, if I had cancelled the DD and they attempted to take the payment, would they not have put it against my credit file and resulted in a major PITA to rectify?

If it failed they would have reached out to you regarding the payment, it wouldn't go straight to a 'missed payment' as it wasn't a regular planned payment.Wb90 said:

Nightmare! Another hour on the phone again this morning then…0 -
If they don't immediately back-off and cancel it then go straight to a formal complaint to stop them doing anything else regarding the debt.Wb90 said:
