14 day cooling period

Does anyone know where you legally stand with the return of a bespoke Stair lift? My mother passed away during the 14 day cooling off period (stated as 14 days after installation) and has never been able to use the lift. The company are saying because it was a bespoke installation, they don't buy back and they cannot refund. They also state that their cooling off period only applies to whether the stair lift is fit for purpose and for no other reason to change your mind than that. Is this legal?

As it's bespoke, there is no cooling off period.1

How bespoke is it? If it's a "bespoke" layout made up of standard parts - think like a Meccano set - then it isn't technically bespoke. If it's been genuinely made to fit a specific staircase then it is bespoke and as zx81 says, there is no statutory right to a cooling off period. It also depends on whether the cooling-off period offered is a statutory one, i.e. it was ordered completely online, without ever visiting a showroom or having a home visit beforehand, or whether it's an offer made by the supplier. If the latter, then the terms they set apply.1

It's bespoke, made to fit a specific staircase, so I think the only option is to find a company that will come and take it out and sell on. thanks
