Energy Bills - changing from business rates to residential rates
Hi All,
Wondering if anyone can advise on this? I have a business energy account (gas + electricity) with British Gas, I want to move my business account to residential as I have retired and no longer want to run a business.
I called British Gas and they have mentioned they are happy to move to residential however they are not taking on any new customers due to energy prices increasing this April 2022. Should I keep my energy bill running as a business account or should I look at moving to another energy supplier? Can anyone advise if they have been in a similar position and what is the best solution? I am not sure what to do and any advise would be extremely appreciated.
Thanks!

Your best bet is to stick with BG - you need a supplier that does both
I suggest you write to BG business - rather than phone.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -

The rates that she was going to be charged were astronomical compared to the standard variable rates and even some of the fixed deals that were on offer. In your shoes, I'd be instructing BG to switch you to a domestic rate, and if they refuse, raise a formal complaint. After 8 weeks, you can then go to the Energy Ombudsman. In the meantime, compare the BG domestic fixed tariffs against what you are currently paying - You may well find one of them to be much cheaper than the business tariff you are currently on.
Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.1
