Thank you for your responses, however, I've probably put too much information in here so I have removed it.
' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".

The story doesn't stack up. The bank allowed your niece to withdraw all the money from her account. The transfer of her mothers savings account balance to her current account was performed before the withdrawl. Had nothing to do with Santander. Nor did the bank give the niece the money from the savings account in cash.KiKi said:
However, they also (without authorisation or asking) took all the cash from her mum's savings account(!) and gave it to her. Her mum had no idea, didn't authorise it and wasn't told about it. My niece flagged that this money wasn't hers. Her mum's account statement shows that the cash in her savings account was transferred to my niece on the day she was in the bank finding out why they were closing it.0 -
If they’ve shut the account at that short notice then your niece probably isn’t giving you the full story about her financial behaviour. Google money mule - In most cases like this it probably is the reason why.
If she tried to open up basic accounts with other banks and was unsuccessful, she probably has a CIFAS marker against her for fraud - your niece will have to SAR them to find out (again… Google).0 -
The bank would not just give your niece money from her mothers account, that just wouldn't happen. More likely is a transfer happened prior to this withdrawal which as you suggest is showing on her mother's account. Also what did you mean about her mothers account being visible on your niece's card? That doesn't make any sense.
The fact the account was shut immediately would suggest a breach of terms or suspected fraudulent activity has taken place. Some of the things you've mentioned don't stack up or make much sense either. . Maybe the money transferred from her mother's savings account was the culprit. We can only guess really however I would suggest there is a lot more to this story than what you have been told.
Wait for a letter from the bank explaining things and send a SAR to CIFAS to see if there is anything registered against her.
PS, removing your post means no one can answer your questions.2 -
And now there's too little, i.e. zero, information!KiKi said:Thank you for your responses, however, I've probably put too much information in here so I have removed it.
Removing an opening post is really unhelpful.
No one viewing now knows what your issue was, apart from the clues in the replies, and no one can learn from it if they have similar issues.1 -

Hence why I always quote the Original post if I'm the first to reply to it, that way there a copy should the OP decide to remove it.
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:1 -
Having viewed the original post in the cached version on google I would agree with the replies saying that the story doesn't stack up or make sense.
Closure of the account is one thing, but the whole business of the mother's savings account being transferred and "Three weeks later... her mum's savings account is still on her card, despite her never having access to it" just cannot be true. Cards don't represent multiple accounts. And if the account is closed then she has no 'card' and so cannot see what is or isn't 'on' it.
I'm not going to requote the post as the OP clearly doesn't want it here (though a simple edit of details would have been better than wholesale deletion) but would suggest the OP needs to clarify what actually has happened, because what was posted makes no sense.4
