Smart meters

Hi i had smart meters fitted in 2019 by SCOTTISH POWER and still dont work  3 years later the in house  monitor has never worked ,i have had energy ombudsman involved twice and they have got nowhere. 
I upped my payments 2 years ago as not to get big bill,had various engineers out saying meter faulty but what ever he has done cannot read meter at all now because display not working on meter. 
I have been manually sending meter readings but cannot even read meter now.
3 years later still getting nowhere ,
Could i take any legal route?

    If they were installed 3 years ago I would assume they are first generation. If you can no longer get readings then you will need to contact Scottish Power & they will exchange them to the newer ones, they also may work 
  • No they are the newest ones they have fitted them and they have never been able to commission them ,dont know why ,they now after 3 years say they both need changing.
    I have been ringing them weekly for 3 years .
    They have the gas meter reading backwards ? but will not bill me to there readings.
    The problem is getting SCOTTISH POWER out to change them ,they keep arranging appointments i take the days off work and no show from SCOTTISH POWER engineers.
    ABSOLUTE nightmare/joke dont know what to do now ,dont want to change company until i get it sorted. 
    Even so i cant be the only one with probem with SCOTTISH POWER they should be made to fix problems, trouble is they're not accountable.

    To be clear, are you saying you haven't been able to read the meter for 3 years now, or not been able to read it recently, if so how long?.
    If it's more than a year they can't back bill you for more than a year and if any future bill is based on estimated consumption whilst the meter could not be read, if it exceeds your own expected usage don't accept the bill, challenge it.

    Its only since 31/12/021 when the engineer from SP came out and tried to commission the meter which he did some thing and since then  haven't been able to read the gas meter at all.
    The actual gas smart meter  SP  have the raedings going backwards ,its only through me reading the meters over the last 3 years and posting it on there website they have accurate readings. 
    Its only recently they have been getting signal from electric meter so they have correct reading from the electric meter.
    But the gas meter display does not work at all now,BUT the gas meter has never worked for 3 years neither has the in house display.
    Now they say there is no available appointments for engineer to come,but i cannot send accurate readings because cant read the gas meter.

    It sounds like you are going to have fun and games when it comes to paying for your gas as it looks as though it may have to be estimated unless they decide to let you have it for free until the meter is replaced. Just make sure they don't try and bill you in excess of the usage you normally had before the meter stopped working!
    However can you explain what you mean by the "readings going backwards" ?

    When i have given them readings over the past 3 years ,i use to post it on there (SCOTTISH POWER)website, but a day or 2 later i would go on the website and the reading they had supposedly  received from the gas smart meters would have been changed by SP and would be lower ie i would give a reading of 34567 and 2 days later they would have changed it to 12345 significantly lower.
    So i would ring them and ask them to pull areading off the gas smart meter and they would verify the 12345 ,so i would say to them bill me on the 12345 reading but they would not telling me that they had the meter reading backwards and there is a fault. 
    But getting them to sort it has been nightmare but like i said earlier not accountable. 
    I have even said to them i have had both these smart meters since new,so both these meters where 0 when i had them fitted,so i would like them to calculate from date fitted payments i have made and thats the only way to get true cost of energy but they wont.Now i cant read them at all.
    Thats why i asked if anything can be done legally
