Rodents Yikes!!!

Hi And thanks for reading.
I have a few rats running around in my wall cavaties and in the loft.
Did a search and found that people were filling up entrance points into their homes using expanding foam to prevent the rodents from entering.
I did the same and it really has helped, but now they are chewing through the expanding foam and getting back in.
I examined the dried foam and it is not very strong.
Do you know of anything i can use to fill up the entrance points, something tougher than foam.
The way i did it, is to drill holes in the skirting boards then inject the expanding foam in. That blocked their access points and they stopped coming in, temporarily
Many thanks

Put wire wool in with the expanding foam?  They don't like that.

Yes expanding foam is pretty useless. As Doozer said, put wirewool in it.

Do you know their access points? Airbricks? If so, wire mesh over them helped our situation significantly
  • Check fascia / eaves for entrance points also . Putting ammonia in the loft and banging on your ceiling at random times may help deter them . They don't like spearmint either ..

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.

Think i'll try the steel wool and expanding foam option, as the expanding foam by itself was successful, albeit temporarily.

What is the best way to do this. I have a one-inch drill bit, I could drill holes in the skirting boards, then shove in as much steel wool as possible, then inject in the expanding foam.
How much foam do i need to put in? Is this to act like a glue and hold the steel wool into place? How much steel wool did you think is best?

    Many thanks
