You can't compare the services offered by a large multi-GP practice and small solo one. Mine has an number of  doctors, nurses and other specialists who run various clinics.

Having them done at the GP doesn’t automatically mean they’re free.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Morally I’d agree. We all pay in under the same set of rules so should receive the same services.
unfortunately it’s been a postcode lottery for quite some time.

there may be times when it’s worth switching gps.
there are 3 in my town and 2 are good, 1 is not.

l’ve always been amazed that things like flying (pilot) and scuba diving medicals have been free even if they are largely signing a form.
I guess those days are largely over.
Divers I am fairly sure have to pay, especially as there are only 74 authorised medical examiners to sign them off in the whole country.

The difference however would be that as a country we need to have commercial divers and pilots and it is the HSE that has decreed that these health checks are legally required to work.

As a country we don't need people leaving the country on holiday and whilst vaccinations are sensible they broadly aren't a legal requirement

My diving checks have mostly been free in the past (where it means a 5 minute conversation about medical history and signing a form).
for recreational diving you can be signed off by a GP (PADI form).

my private pilots forms have been similar.

commercial - I totally agree as that would usually involve tests.

personally I think all of these recreational/commercial things should be chargeable.
there is a public health argument for pilots, divers, gun holders and holiday makers to have these things but that doesn’t mean it should be free.

The issue is that where people have had it in the past for free or other people get it for free then it appears unfair, so a standard approach would appear fairer.

The postcode lottery is mainly down to the make up of nationalities in your area (our GP informed us of this, not just an opinion) if your area has a large amount of people who would regularly travel to their "home" country and that country has large pockets of communicable diseases then your vaccinations will be free for the reason you stated earlier, its far chaeper to vacinate people here than let them return with a spreadable problem such as TB

"Postcode lottery" is another word for local devolution. There is no single NHS - the priorities, budgets and services are decided at a local level. In England, this is primarily decided by which CCG you are a part of. I'm not sure we'd want a system where someone in London decided what services should be available for the whole country as then people would be demanding a local say.

Reminds me of the covid regulations.
some people wanted devolution but when they didn’t like what their country was doing they complained.
so they wanted to be different but then they didn’t.
