CAn we go back in time ?  What was the annual consumption - what was Shell's guess or better find a couple of bills 12 months apart that have actual readings.

  • Don't know if someone else mentioned but how is the immersion switched on? With a timer or just a on off switch?

I wonder if the immersion is being left on for longer than known, or possibly things have gotten mixed up and it's on all the time when thought to be off and only switched off for a couple of hours here and there when it's thought to be on?

I think there are two aspects to this.

    1) the electrical consumption and its consequential cost.  No doubt we will bottom this out. It's difficult for the OP when they live so far away.  Hopefully the sister will qualify for the £150 next month.

    2) the sister's income and ability to meet basic living costs.   A SOA will help here and a close examination of her expenditure  - have you looked at things like  insurance, council tax  etc . Have you looked at a benefits calculator ?
