I was with PFP when they went bust, they were only supplying gas as there was an error in also taking over the electricity supply from Avro. I just received an "energy statement" from PFP, stating I have a credit balance of £146.69 - I actually moved both Gas & electricity to Sainsbury's energy, how do I recover my Balance, do I need to contact British Gas (solr) even though I'm not currently with them?

Yes, BG are responsible for paying the credit back to you, so start there.

BG will send you a cheque, eventually.

Do I need to contact BG with the statement from PFP in order for this to happen, & even if not - is there any advantage to be had in doing this?

The following is on the PFP Energy website (and was also on the back pages of the final PFP bill I received)

If a final statements shows a credit balances

If a customer account shows a credit balance then this amount is owed to the customer.

All credit balances will be honoured by British Gas.

    • If a customer transferred to British Gas as part of the SoLR process, British Gas will apply a customer’s credit to their new British Gas account.
    • If a customer is not a current customer of British Gas, their credit balance will still be honoured by British Gas – they are working on getting this to customers as soon as possible.

Further information on credit balances can be found on the dedicated British Gas webpage as detailed in the relevant section below.

You can get in touch with British Gas but at the moment I doubt you'll get any more than a stock "Refunds will be issued shortly" as stated on their own PFP information website.
