OVO claim £1k debt but no record of my payments last year

I am missing a bill from sse from Oct to December. Ovo took over my account in January and on Friday told me I was due £1k when they took over my account. On their online account almost £800 of my payments are missing from last years sse account. They are threatening me with debt collectors and say its not their problem as the debt was with sse. I can't contact sse but I have bank statements to prove I paid hundreds every month last year. Sse also kept changing my direct debit amount without warning. What is going on and who can help?! I have been robbed in broad daylight from sse!

Write to OVO  - don't phone -  letter headed COMPLAINT
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

    I'm confused.
You were with SSE until January (2022) and that there's a £1K balance with SSE who seem to have missed your payments.

Your complaint isn't with OVO, the money is owed to SSE.  OVO have taken over supply only.  They should bill you from the date of the take over and you would have had to provide new meter readings to them that would close down your SSE supply and started your OVO account.

Now if SSE had not got your billing right and have under charged you (eg by estimating your bills) then I can see where the debt comes from.   As for the payments, well that's easily proven if you made them or not   Speak to your bank, if you paid direct debit there will be a record of payments  if you paid the bills as they came though then there will be quarterly debits from your account.

If they have been mishandled then rectifying this shouldn't take long...
