Is my pyracantha in trouble?

My Pyracantha Red Column hedge is suffering from some kind of problem. The leaves look like black spot which affects roses and they pull off with a gentle tug.
I am dreading this might be fire blight
Is there anything I can buy or do to help?

  • Black Spot et al are reactions to differing situations, assess the growing conditions first, insecticide possibly needed here though.
Lots of books specific to the topic available.

Had a bit of a look online and not sure that it is.
Two things come to mind. Scab and the weather. Perhaps one led to the other as the last 2yrs has been crazy weatherwise with excessive rain and excessive heat.
The wet leads to a lot of fungal infections. I and the garden centres are having problems with Rosemary bushes.
If you have a lot of them together or the other plants are close they may need feeding. The eternal rain will wash a lot of goodnss out of the soil just as the plants need it for growth.
BFBone and now is a good time with the moisture taking it into the soil.
A quick version which would be good in this case is a liquid Phostrogen feed which will be taken up quickly then a week later sprinkle with BFB
I'm about to dash out and feed everything as it's suddenly emerging new leaves.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Well my thoughts are as follows.
As pyracantha is basically an evergreen then there are times when it does seem to shed some leaves.
    Ours do it.
I would feed it & leave it alone & see what happens.
