Wheel alignment Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock area.

Does anyone know a decent garage that can sort out  my Skoda Superb which is eating front tyres.

It went in to Arnold Clark and their super dooper ACC machine at great expense 2/3 years ago.  Last year it failed its MOT after eating a pair of tyres in 6,000 miles, my mechanic replaced  a bent track rod end and told me to get it properly tracked as hge could only do it by eye.

I still haven't found anyone that I am happy to go to and MOT and new tyres will be due next month.  I need someone who can dig a bit deeper to find a cure.

Sorting tracking can only be done once you know all the other suspension components are in good condition.

If any part is out of alignment sorting tracking will merely cover up the actual fault.

I know this after I hit a kerb, had tracking done as it was pulling,  car then ate a front tyre, on further investigation it was due to a bent lower suspension arm.

I used align my car, From memory it was a hunter machine.
Did my old Vectra estate, went down the autobahn 2 weeks later at 135 mph on cruise control straight as a die.

My C class was doing the one tyre in.
All the components were good I was advised and it pulled to the left as well more than other cars.
Then someone told to go to a tyre centre that had a "Hunter machine as they are almost idiot-proof."
I did but to me, it was a lot of money at the time close to 50.  The car was at least 95% better and though the
tyre wore out again on the insides it took longer to do that and drove a million miles better.
Ask for a printout before and after. I had it checked again at Kiwkfit a few years ago, no charge as they said no adjustment required but check what you have to pay first or not.

This is my point, I want someone to look at the whole suspension geometry and not just plug it in to a machine, as stated the main dealer has already done that (to set up the ACC) but they didn't get it right.

I'm sure the Hunter machines  would do a good job in their own right but I just need someone with a bit of old school nous to have a look at it in more depth.

Is there anyone out there that can do that?
  • Give Automek in East Kilbride a call.  Explain the situation to Andrew and he’ll diagnose the fault properly instead of just chucking it on the laser alignment and hoping for the best.  If it’s not right they’ll also realign it for free.  Once you get your hands on a mechanic who actually knows what he’s doing you don’t go back.

Thanks CairngormStag, have spoken to Andrew and he wants new tyres on first so I will take care of that and then my MOT is due exactly one month away, so will get all that done and then book it in.  Sounds a good guy on the phone.

How perfect should a wheel alignment be? Had one done this week and all values in green on the report but some closer to the upper or lower limits than central? Is that normal?

Yes, completely normal, otherwise the limits would be tighter.
  • Did you end up getting it looked at and the issue starts resolved?

No, he wants new tyres on before looks at it, the new tyres are to bed fitted on Tuesday, will then book it in (about 2-3 weeks lead time on that), have also booked an  early (25 days) MOT for Friday.
