Afternoon all, it's quiet on here today, isn't it?
I just couldn't seem to get going yesterday at anything so had a very lazy day. DS phoned early afternoon and we had a long chat - well, he talked and I listened. He can talk the hind legs off a donkey sometimes! I had a nana nap after that and slobbed out in front of the TV last night, so not much energy expended at all. I didn't get around to sorting out the haberdashery stash either but that's not urgent and can wait for when I'm in the mood.
Today is dry and fairly mild with some sun now and again. I've had a walk to the Co-op this morning and noticed more signs of Spring. As well as crocuses and daffs, I've spotted quite a few primulas in different colours appearing and even one or two blossom trees starting to flower. The willow tree outside my kitchen is starting to sprout leaves and, when the sun is shining, looks as if it has a lemon/lime colour haze around it. It's a favourite perch for the blue tits as well as the wood pigeons.
I didn't get much shopping - a couple of bananas for me, a bottle of lemonade for DH, a ys swede and a ys bag of parsnips, so this week's soup will be spicy parsnip & potato. This morning we had a bits & bats breakfast (a rasher of bacon each, potato cakes, beans and fried bread), cheese & crackers at lunchtime and tonight we're having roast beef & gravy from the freezer, mash and the last of the sprouts. I've done some Yorkshire pudding mix too and will cook them in a muffin tray as "minis" so there'll be some for the freezer.
I'm hoping the postie brings the annual bills tomorrow as I want to see where we stand money-wise, not that I'm expecting any good news! I'm still waiting for the results from my recent retinal screening too, hopefully everything will be OK. I need to make an appointment for a regular eye test too as I haven't been for quite some time (well, much longer than I care to admit to). Before retiring, I used to go to one in the city centre near to where I worked but now I never go into town it makes sense to use one nearer to home. There is one on the parade where all the charity shops are, so next time I have a bag to take, I'll pop in and see if I can get booked in. I already have reading glasses that probably need changing but I think I may need some for outside as well. If I'm at a bus stop where several different buses stop, I can't see the bus numbers very well and often have to ask someone which one it is. Oh, the perils of old age.
Stay safe everyone, it seems Covid is on the increase again, though I can't say that comes as a surprise, and hugs to anyone needing or wanting one. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.11 -
New here, so popped in to say 'Hi' from damp but bright Devon, after yesterday's torrential rain and wind!
It did rain briefly when I set off for Chapel this morning, but in compensation, there was a glorious rainbow! I got there early as those of us in the worship group always run through the various songs before service at 10 a.m.
We had a brief update on the work of the Christians Against Poverty's Debt Centre during the service, following on from a visit to Chapel last November by the local organisers. It was heartening to hear of the successes but sobering (though not really surprising) to hear that they are having many more people coming to them

Although I didn't stay for the coffee hour (I'd forgotten to put the slow cooker on before I left 🙄, so we may be eating a bit late tonight!) I still managed to catch up with a friend who is currently bottle-feeding eleven lambs and worrying about a number of her ewes with mastitis - the fields are so very wet and muddy at the moment too, which doesn't help but she hasn't lost any of her flock and lambs, which is a blessing.
Came home and sorted out the slow cooker, ran the vacuum around, much to the cats' disgust, and then settled to do a bit of cross-stitch. DH is currently having a snooze and I think I might join him, especially as dinner isn't going to be until 7 tonight. Our new kitten woke us both up at 5 am. this morning, demanding fuss and breakfast, not necessarily in that order nd I'm beginning to fade a bit.
Take care of yourselves, all - sending hugs to those who would like or need one xxx10 -
Very late one from me, feels like the first chance I've had to sit down!Welcome LadyHarrietBelated wishes for Izzy and TA, glad you had a nice day.We went out for a meal last night with friends. They drove, and took us somewhere we hadn't been before, we all enjoyed it, reasonably priced too.Had a pork joint for tea with all the trimmings, it was very smoky in the oven though & we had to open the back door. Will check for fat splashes tomorrow when it's cold.Time for feet up now, will watch the Ipcress file later. Take care all x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)7
