Covid before travelling

Hi,
Covid-19 is sweeping my house as I type, for the first time. My 6 year old has brought it home and now I’m positive too. We also travel to Crete early in April.
We were all set to book our children (too young for jabs) in for tests prior to leaving. Now it occurs to me that that PCR test may come up positive due to residual antibodies and leave us stuffed at the last minute.
I’ve waded through the .gov travel advice and got nowhere. Proof of recovery appears to be for over 12s only.
What the hell can I do to stop this ruining things?
Thank you

Hope you all recovery quickly .

The current rules may well change by the time of your holiday.

If the current rules are still in place - a negative result from rapid antigen test ( lateral flow ) from an authorised laboratory, undertaken within the 24 hour period before your arrival into Greece is accepted for entry . You are very unlikely to test positive on an lateral flow test after 10 days of the initial positive result. You will need a certificated result ( so you can’t use the free NHS ones )

To meet the 24 hour criteria one option is to book the tests at the airport you are departing from .
  • Thanks! There’s no way we can risk being tested at the airport. If any of the 4 children fail (we are travelling with friends) then we will be thrown into chaos trying to decide what to do! I’m thinking only those failing the test will be covered on travel insurance so we will have to be making decisions about who’s going to take care of any children who might have to stay behind. The antigen test does sound like a smaller window but less chance of ruining things.

You can use the NHS test or a lateral flow test from Boots to test yourselves 5- 10 days after your positive test to see if you are still testing positive.

You won’t be able to use these results for travel but at least you’ll know where you stand .

Is this definitely what your policy says or does your reference to 'thinking' suggest that you're unsure?  It would be unusual for a policy not to recognise a family unit with dependents, so I'd expect that it would effectively envisage all of you going or none of you, rather than being forced to split the family up....

If you have a group policy all on the policy will be covered.

But if each family has its own travel insurance then that will only cover that family.
