Help Frogs or Leave Alone?
Options
I have an old fish pond which i have left for the newts and wildlife for the last few years and there are so many newts that no frogspawn seems to make it to tadpole stage.
Should i leave well alone as this is natures way or move the frogspawn into a tub planter give it a predator free place to hatch?
I successfully transferred spawn two years ago however last year the spawn all turned white, I am 50/50 on the idea i know temperature change is a risk also.
I used to have Frogs, Toads and Newts however, the Newts seem to have done much better!

Many people would be envious of your newts and I tried looking it up but opinion seems to be divided about whether they eat tadpoles. So it looks like there are some things that could affect the spawn.Interesting piece ofI'm interested because I want to make a pond for frogs as there was no garden here when I moved in and I've taken out the only plant that they were sitting under. However my frog seems to live in the main drain. No idea where he spawns as the gardens here are barren pondwise. As to the turning white there seems to be a number of reasons. Perhaps doo a search for 'why does frogspawn turn white and you'll find a number of reasons to match against what you've experienced. It bemuses me.There's even a site called Froglife.org. Amazing what people get into as a charity

Could you do both? Leave some frogspawn where it is and transfer some to a tub? You can buy tadpole food to help them along.1

Humans intervening in nature is divisive. Some people might chase a cat away from attacking/killing a bird but wouldn't remove the tadpoles from a pond to stop them getting munched by newts.I get frogs but have no idea why; there isn't a pond or anything. I had the lawmower out and saw something moving in the grass - a tiny frog! Adorable wee thing, scooped it up and moved it to safety. Probably got eaten by something anyway, it was barely a large thumbnail size.1

I believe it is against the law to move frogs spawn.
Could be wrong of course.
