Banging my head with Octopus
In the time I've been with Octopus, I've been very happy with them until now. They sent me an email on 29th January saying my fixed term is ending 15th March and a new tariff will start 16th March, that makes sense to me. However, when I clicked on their link to find out the new prices, it said my new tariff will start 15th March, so I queried it by email. Their reply was they can confirm my new tariff will start 15th March. I emailed again saying I didn't understand how the new tariff can start the day the old tariff ends.
Their next reply was this, which I found very patronising as I already know the details of my tariff and end date.
Thankyou for this, you are currently on a fixed rate for your current tariff, this is a 12month tariff and it ends on the 15th march 2022, so on this date you will either roll onto a flexible if you don't choose to go onto a foxed, or roll onto a new fixed rate. I hope this clears things up!
Got fed up emailing, so this morning I phoned. I was told my current tariff ends at midnight on 15th March and the new tariff starts at 12.01 on 15th March. Queried that again but for some reason they seem to think that is the same day. She also told me that the original email should never have said 16th March as the new start date.
I am a pensioner but haven't completely lost my marbles yet, so can anyone else make any sense of this?

The only thing I can suggest is that their day doesn't change at midnight as you'd expect, although I can't see why that should be. Some industries such as public transport have a different end to their day, so if for example you've purchased a day ticket and your return journey is very late at night, it is still valid as being the same day. I can't see why energy firms would have such a rule but it is just a suggestion.
However, is it really worth making a fuss about?0 -
Ultimately you're making a fuss over one day, is it really worth the hassle for what probably equates to a few pence?4.29kWp Solar system, 45/55 South/West split in cloudy rainy Cumbria.3

You're going to a lot of effort and fuss over a typo on an email that equates to one day longer on your old tariff.
As @Spies points out the difference will be pence, not worth raising your blood pressure and wasting time on the phone over.

Effectively it changes at midnight, when you see a date on your bill for a meter reading it is showing you the reading on that day before any of the days use.Your new tariff should impact the usage from the 16th onwards.0

Energy companies should state the time as well as the date i.e. 15/3/22 @ 00:00 and not just the date a tariff ends as that could mean the customer has another 24 hours on the cheaper tariff. A date can be used to mean as from the date or after that dateSomeone please tell me what money is0
