No Claims Enquiry -- Capped 10 years, but actually have 16?

I've been driving 17 years, and have had zero claims. However, during the journey I've used insurers who cap NCB to 10 years, so my NCB "certificate" doesn't actually reflect this.

I'm looking to sign up with Ford Insure who seemingly cap at 15 years, and the difference between that of my NCB Cert (11) and that of 15+ is £70.

Am I a victim of "the game", or can I declare 15+ (16) years NCB?

You'll have to speak to the insurer.  They may take your word for it if you explain, or they may insist on setting NCB based on what your recent proof of NCB certificate says.  It's unusual for it to make that much difference where so much NCB is concerned, however.

I have to agree with the previous poster - the vast majority of insurers will only give you the same NCB that is proven by your current insurer's renewal invite or other document.  TBH, most mainstream insurers I've been with cap it at 9 years - and as Ditzy says, anything above 9 years usually makes very little if any difference.

Thanks, this is the first time I've come across such a vast difference in terms of cost. Like you've both said, most I've used before have capped themselves at around 10.

Ford Insure give 10,11,12,13,14,15+ options too.

Admiral is roughly the same cost, I'll see how they fair...

When you are getting a quote they go up to 50 years. I just put the number of years that I haven't claimed for. I just tell the truth. It's up to them to prove otherwise.

Ford insure probably offer those secure in the knowledge that few if any customers will be able to take advantage.

As others have said, the majority cap at 5 years, the next most common cap is 9 (yes many insurers have ancient system where a 1 digit and 2 digit number was an actual consideration in the db design)

Anyone who's offering an actual higher discount above that will regularly run into customers where their proof of NCD will say "9+ years" or equiv and should have a process for dealing with this.

I would always put the number of years printed on the renewal notice from my current insurer, regardless of how many years I have gone without claiming.

If there is ever any dispute about what your NCB is, then they may ask to see the original document from your previous insurer.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

What if you're asked for proof of no claims and your renewal notice states 9 years?

This is me also. "We're" too honest, clearly.

Ford Insure state there's a charge for this too.
