I am in the same quandary, fixed rate with SP end this month which was £45 per moth DD.
New variable is 24.03 p per day and 21.557 p kWh
one year fixed rate is 41.65p per day and 57.14p kWh. £50 exit fee.
    seems expensive to me.

    That's because it is.
If October's cap is anywhere near 50p/kWh we'll all* be in trouble.

Im new here so jumping on this topic. we use electric only besides oil.

Presently on EDF  fixed tariff until june 2022 paying £40 month. £15 exit fee.
Edf are offering another 2 yr deal at £119  with £100 exit fee with  unit rate 53.10p St chg p37..92 annual est £1417
or variable at £71 with no exit fee unit price 29.24p and st chg p37.92 annual est £842.

annual use is approx 2409 kwh..

should I accept variable now or will it still be available june?

comparison sites not giving me any price even cheaper than edf fixed.

    Suggestions please.
A 53.10 kWh is extremely expensive. A massive increase on the April 1st capped variable rate of around 29p.

If octupus is no cheaper ( another suggestion) Do I change before April1 st or will EDF variable   rate be the same on June1st?

EDF's published variable rates from 1st April are set right at the top of the Ofgem price cap.
EDF will not be able to increase them until Ofgem increase the cap. This is next due to happen in October.
