Faulty gas meter

Hi everyone, over 2 years ago I had a smart meter fitted. Last year In October I noticed that on my bills my gas readings were estimated rather than the actual readings (the electrical ones were fine) I contacted my supplier and they said that the meter was probably was still recording the gas useage but they hadn’t received the readings. I explained that I was unable to take a reading has the window was obscured with condensation and they said they would send out a engineer, who finally came today. I have been paying monthly direct debits for my gas so didn’t notice there was an issue until six months ago when I reported it. The engineer has said that the meter was faulty and has replaced it today but I am not sure of where I stand with my bill? Although I have paid an estimated amount there is no way of knowing if this is correct? Can anyone advise?

If they can recover the data from the meter they will use that to recalculate your bills. If they can't retrieve the data they will make an estimate, which you will be able to challenge, if you think it is unreasonable.

Based on my experience, when a gas smart meter is replaced the old meter goes into a plastic bag along with the regulator. I am not aware of any supplier/third-party recovering missing data.Verdigris said:If they can recover the data from the meter they will use that to recalculate your bills.
