    There are some strict timings but in essence the employee gives notice that they will be leaving and claiming redundancy.
    If done correctly the employer cannot withdraw the redundancy later.

    Some companies do not put people on garden leave for notice periods when redundancy is the reason. Many Pay in Lieu of Notice (PILON) where they pay your notice period (and usually holiday if they didn't make you take it) as part of the redundancy settlement. That means that once you have worked the last day you are free to start a new job the next day.

    You really need to understand what the terms of the redundancy will be in order to understand your personal scenario.
